To Post or Not to Post: Social Media Etiquette for Businesses

Social Media has transformed the way everybody does business. Today, potential customers are able to post questions, give feedback and interact with businesses directly. This is a good opportunity for business owners to engage and turn their readers into clients. Social media is a very effective business tool when used correctly.
Here are the 7 rules of etiquette you need to observe to use social media to your favour.
Let people know who you are. Present a completed company profile on all the social media platforms you are in. Spend some time on your about page to make sure you are speaking directly to your target audience. Include a good profile and cover photo when needed. A completed profile not only lets your audience know what your company is about, it also differentiates you from spam accounts.
Post information that is of value to others. You want your followers to get substance out of your daily posts. Avoid saturating your timeline with advertisements of your products. Post articles, images and other content that are relevant to what you offer while providing helpful insights that your readers can look forward to.
Post with care. In the social world, you are judged by what you put out there. So do not post when you are tired, jet-lagged, in a hurry or angry. Plan your posts ahead of time so that there is room for deliberation. Handle comments, positive and otherwise, graciously.
Don’t mix business and personal posts. A common mistake more than a few business owners make is to manage one social media account for both business and personal purposes. While it is okay to represent your brand and add a personal touch to your content, avoid posts that are irrelevant to your business and audience.
Respect other people’s intellectual property. Social media is full of great content that you and your readers can enjoy and benefit from. When reposting content, make sure to acknowledge its source by posting a link or tagging the authors.
Be mindful of grammar. Edit your content several times before posting them. You may be putting great content out there but you also need to make sure you don’t distract your readers from it with grammar and spelling mistakes.
Stay connected. Keep an eye out for comments, likes, mentions and other ways your audience is reaching out to you. Keep your response rate at a very high level. Engage your readers.
