Survey Monkey

SurveyMonkey is a popular online survey software tool that gives businesses a way to generate responses, in the form of customisable questionnaires, from a target audience. With a free services model that can have you up and running in a short time, SurveyMonkey is a powerful tool for any small business.

Basic Features Available on SurveyMonkey

Once a survey is created, the software captures the responses of the respondents through a wide network of sources such as email, websites, blogs, banner ads, and social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. The software comes with predefined survey templates intended for use to obtain academic, political or market research. There are also surveys intended for customer satisfaction and fundraising. It includes 15 questions that help identify the response needed by its users.

SurveyMonkey Licensing Levels

The use of SurveyMonkey to create a survey comes in four licensing levels. These include the following:

Basic

SurveyMonkey’s basic licensing comes as a free tool for anyone to use. Each survey includes 10 questions and has a reach of up to 100 respondents. It also comes with email support.

Select

At $26 per month (with $17 in monthly savings when users pay upfront for a year), users can go for the Select licensing level which allows them to create unlimited questions and reach unlimited responses. The plan provides more advanced surveys which include skip logic. It also includes enhanced security for the user.

Gold

The Gold plan under SurveyMonkey comes with even more advanced survey logic for a monthly rate of $25. Users under this plan may export the results to SPSS. The Gold plan also gives its users access to more than 180 survey complete templates.

Platinum

The highest tier under SurveyMonkey is the Platinum level which has a monthly rate of $65. This gives its users ability for complete branding control and even uplift support to voice calls over the phone.

Gold and Platinum plans are only available on yearly rates (rates above details the monthly breakdown). Payments may be done annually through the use of a credit card or by invoice.

SurveyMonkey Reviews

SurveyMonkey is currently being used by a number of individuals throughout the world. For those who are deciding whether or not to start using the software, these may help give you an idea on what to expect with the tool:

SurveyMonkey Pros:

Free Version can Yield Results

There are quite a number of survey creation software tools available in the market. Some of these offer free and paid plans just like SurveyMonkey does. However, SurveyMonkey’s Basic version provides a strong set of templates that users can choose from. For those who need to create a simple questionnaire, this plan can prove to yield positive responses from the right audience.

Helpful Questions

SurveyMonkey offers pre-screened and expertly crafted questions in templates that users can easily use to create the survey they need. This can be a big help for those who do not have research experience as the tool provides pre-scripted questions they can easily include in their survey.

No Technical Knowledge Needed

The best thing about using SurveyMonkey is that anyone can use it. SurveyMonkey does not require analytical or technical knowledge in order to use the tool. What’s even better is that it quickly analyzes data with the click of a button. It definitely is helpful for newbies.

Good Response from Respondents

Respondents positively respond to surveys hosted on SurveyMonkey as it presents these on a single page. Instead of requiring the respondents to click through after each question, the items are readily presented in a way that’s easy for users to click through.

Allows Respondents to Stay Anonymous

SurveyMonkey allows its respondents to stay anonymous in order to take the survey. This gives them the advantage of knowing that their information will not be used when they take the survey.

SurveyMonkey Cons

Limited Features on Basic Plan

The Basic plan offered by SurveyMonkey only allows a limited number of questions and respondents for every survey created.

No Refunds on Paid Plans

SurveyMonkey does not offer a free trial period for their professional plans. This means that those who are unhappy with their membership cannot get a refund for the money they pay.

As of 2015, SurveyMonkey has 25 million users completing 90 million surveys a month. With revenues topping $100 million a year, it's a service every small business should add to their arsenal of tools for both sales and marketing efforts.
