How Twitter is Changing Small Business

Twitter is a medium where people express their thoughts and share events of their daily lives in 140 characters. It allows its users access to fast and concise information on their newsfeed from those that they choose to follow. Small business owners can use twitter for updates that can give their companies an advantage. Twitter, when used with a strategy can help build, shape and stir a business into growth. It has changed the way businesses speak and listen to their customers.
Connecting with customers
Since twitter can be used both from a pc and a mobile device, it allows for easy and real time exchange between the company and the customer. This exchange can be in the form of customer positive or negative customer feedback, business news, promos and real time announcements. Real time sharing allows entrepreneurs to gauge the effectiveness of their product or promotion from the customers themselves as they are being delivered.
Branding
One of the priorities for small businesses is building their brand. To introduce their company, state who they are and let potential customers know what their purpose is. The concept of branding has always been centred on ‘Who we are’. Twitter has helped redirect this definition through customer interaction and shifted it to ‘What we can do for you’. It is not only based on a single profile but it is defined by the daily interaction a company has with their customers.
Selling
It is important to understand that Twitter does not absolutely replace telephone, email or connection based selling. It is also noticeable how huge companies and small businesses alike are turning to twitter to promote their products and services. It has been said that people buy from those that they trust. Twitter provides an avenue for businesses to speak to their customers in a language that they can relate to. It has humanised the conversation that instead of simply presenting products to be bought through the traditional methods, twitter offers businesses alternatives to position their companies as a resource to offer useful information or provide innovative solutions. Businesses can now take a position via a tweet that can quickly engage either their prospects or customers, all in less than 140 characters!
