How Twitter can change your Startup Business
With more than 300 million users on twitter the chances are your customers are going to be on this fast paced, micro blogging style channel. If you’ve been paying any attention Twitter is investing heavily in the development of the channel and it's adapting to the market.
From 0 to 30,000 real followers
Why Twitter? You’ll increase followers faster on this channels over most other channels, giving you greater scope to market your content to your niche market. You’ll also be able to follow back those followers with more ease too. Allowing you to pick up valuable insights and knowledge from fringe marketers or even competitors. A little every day makes a big difference and with tools like Crowd fire (read review here) and others you can start to grow your following relatively fast. Here's a few tips from a recent blog - The Small Business Followers Guide.
140 characters of real social power
You might first think that how can I market in 140 characters or less. When you think about it, what is it that captures our attention in a tv ad, an email or in search on google? Is it not the subject line? When you produce blog content develop as many alternate titles as you can for each blog post, we usually aim for 10 per blog. This gives us a lot of great ways to build hashtags to cover more ground across different keyword searches.
Exposure to market products and services
An unforeseen benefit of being on twitter is the added exposure to new products and services and how easily a company can tag you to make a notification that a service or product might be of interest to you. As businesses continue to develop online marketing concepts more service providers are showing up to offer you new ways to better manage your business. This exposure can give you insights on how you too might offer your services.
Influencer learning
Every market niche is dominated by industry experts and by influencers. A simple search for any keyword in your marketing niche will likely display the 5-10 most dominate tweeters which fill the feed. Its easy to spot those influencers, they have great quality content and generally large followings. Twitter offers you a fast paced look at how marketers are positioning content and you too can learn from your influencers. Set a goal to connect with follow and build and Influencer list to make it easy to keep track. You can read more about Managing Twitter Influencer lists here.
Lead generation for Twitter
At first this was a lot harder than we first thought it might be. Over time as we adapted content to be more on target with our niche audience it became easier. There are so many opportunities for reverse marketing seeing many users reach out right away with automated messages offering you a easy way to communicate with followers. With the recent change with messaging having the ability to DM or direct message anyone user has opened up more new possibilities. Remember its about the journey for the customer so give them bite sized pieces to chew off at first. We don't believe in automated messages here in Twitter, they are useless and are usually never on point. Have a look at the persons profile, retweet one of their tweets, add them to a list, reply to a tweet, mention them and then send them a message. You gotta warm up a lead first and see if there is a connection. People buy from people they like.
Website hits and awareness
Twitter with its 140 character tweets can really increase your brand's awareness by driving traffic to your website. Assuming you can connect with your target audience you can relatively easily drive new visitors to your website, something that takes a lot more time on search and this method won't cost you a cent. Try a google shortened link or bitly link to keep track of most clicked tweets.
