Facebook Page for Business

Having an official Facebook Page for your business is a great way to increase your brand’s online presence and connect with your customers. Simply put, it helps you get found by people searching for your products, shares the content you create, and creates a loyal community around your business.

Facebook Pages, previously called “Fan Pages,” are tools created specifically for businesses, organizations, and brands. They’re like profile pages that allow you to get in touch with Facebook’s 1.23 billion users worldwide. Unlike your normal Facebook account, which limits you to 5,000 friends only. Users can “Like” your page without the approval of the Page’s administrators and automatically see your posts on their newsfeed.

As of June 2014, 30 million small businesses have active Pages on Facebook and it’s no coincidence. Many businesses have already felt the positive returns by using Facebook Pages. If your business doesn’t have a Facebook Page yet, it’s time to create one! Creating a Page is easy and absolutely free. Just follow the steps below.

Step 1. Get Started

You must be logged in to create a page so sign up if you don’t have a registered Facebook profile yet.
Creating a page without a personal profile is possible but not recommended. as you won’t be able to like other pages, search for other users, or invite friends.

Instead of creating a business-only page, sign up for a personal profile instead.

Step 2. Choose a Category for your Page

From your profile’s home page, click “Pages” on the left-side navigation bar. Next, click the “Create a Page” button.

Or you can go directly to Facebook’s Create a Page site where you will be presented with six main categories:

1. “Local Business or Place”
2. “Company, Organization, or Institution”
3. “Brand or Product”
4. “Artist, Band or Public Figure”
5. “Entertainment”
6. “Cause or Community”

Take a look at the main categories and browse through the specific categories on the drop-down menus. Pick the one that suits your business best. If you’re unsure, don’t worry, you can change this later.

Do not select “Local Business or Place” if you don’t have a physical store because Facebook will turn your Page into a Place, too. Try searching for relevant categories under the “Brand or Product” category instead.

Step 3. Fill out Required Information

After selecting a category, you will be prompted to enter your business name. If you already have a clear or an established brand name, this won’t be a problem. But if you’re just starting out, you may want to think about the name of your Facebook Page very carefully as you won’t be able to change your name after 200 likes.

Your business name might be similar to other business names already on Facebook, so you can probably add your place or use better keywords. You have a limit of 70 characters for this.

Other fields to fill out include complete address and phone number. Once you’ve entered all the information, click “Get Started.”

Step 4. Set up Basic Information

Facebook will then guide you through the rest of the set up process. You’ll be asked to fill out information including your page’s description, your website URL, your profile photo, and advertising options.

You can actually skip some of these steps and fill them out later in the Facebook Welcome section.

Step 5. Add Images and Other Information

Here are some of the other essentials when setting up a Facebook account for your business.

Profile photo. The business logo is often used for the profile photo. However, you can also use a picture of the person behind the business, so that your customers can see who they are interacting with. A square image is better as rectangular images will be cropped to a square. The recommended photo size is at least 180x180 pixels

● Cover photo. Use a unique image or graphic that is visually dynamic and relevant to your brand or product. Choose a photo that would capture users’ attention, making them want to find out more. It should be at least 399x150 pixels. This may be a picture of people using your product, a new dish, or an artwork tied to your brand. You can also use this as added marketing space. Add information by putting your contact details or links to other social media profiles.

Page Description. Keep your Page description short and sweet, providing as many details as possible.

Other Information. On the upper left corner of your Page’s profile, you will see the tabs “Page” “Activity” and “Settings.” Click “Settings.” Here you can add your Facebook web address, manage permissions, specify how you want your posts seen, as well as add/edit key business information such as contact details, products, menu, store hours, website, and so forth. It is best to fill out all the details before launching your presence.

Step 6. Add an Opt-in form

When you're using Facebook for business you'll most likely want to be building an email subscriber list as you build your fan base. This allows you to market directly to your prospects and importantly capture the contact information growing your own lead base. You can do this via one of the many apps that you can add to Facebook. The Opt-in form works best if there is a giveaway or some form of gift certificate or promotional FREE item. Step 7. Post Something

Another important step to consider before letting your friends know about your Facebook Page is having some content available. Users wouldn’t be engaged by an empty, lifeless business page.

Your content can either be in the form of texts, videos, images or questions promoting your business. Post meaningful, interesting content that your customers would want to see. You can enter milestones and important events as well. All posts will be displayed on your Timeline, in chronological order. It will look something like this:

Step 8. Invite Friends and Customers to Like your New Page

Once you’re happy with the look and feel of your Facebook Page, go ahead and invite all your existing contacts and clients to “Like” your page.

Click the “Build Audience” button at the top of your Page. You’ll see options on how to invite friends and import contacts. This will keep the ball rolling.

Step 9. Maintain a Facebook Marketing Strategy

To establish the Facebook presence of your business, you should create and maintain a strong marketing strategy. This means that you should always provide value to your customers so that in turn, they will continue to engage with your business. Your overall campaign must also be fun, engaging, and informative. Check what other businesses are doing and learn from them.
